{Real Bride} Megan & Roby

Updated: Oct 7, 2020

This {Real Bride} blog is beyond dreamy! Gorgeous newlyweds Megan and Roby created the perfect day to celebrate their union. Read on to hear how this sweet couple met, how Roby proposed, Megan's planning tips, and all their favorite moments. All the beautiful details were captured by Emotive Photo.

How did you meet your groom?

We met at Daytona State College 7 years ago in English 2. I got to class and the room was empty and the lights were off so I assumed class was cancelled. He was passing me as I was leaving the classroom and I told him class was cancelled so we hung out in the media center. Little did I know that class was moved across the hall and not actually cancelled, but it finally gave us an excuse to talk!

Tell us about the proposal!

I was at a friend’s bridal shower back home in Ormond Beach. The plan was for my friend to give me a ride home after we cleaned up her sister’s shower. As we were finishing up I saw my then boyfriend’s car drive up to the house. I thought he was in Orlando so I was super shocked. He drove me up the coast to Ponte Vedra Beach to a secluded beach park close to sunset when he got down on one knee.

How or when did you know he was the one?

I knew he was the one when I realized how comfortable and vulnerable I allowed myself to be around him. We share so many things in common and have the same sense of humor. Everything has always felt right with him from the beginning.

What surprised you most about the wedding planning process?

I was most surprised by how much free time was taken up by Wedding planning. We figured out right away that we needed a Wedding Coordinator (Priscilla Rose Events) to help organize contracts and be the point of contact for us.We both work full time so having Priscilla there at all times and helping us stay on track made life so much easier. We couldn’t of pulled it off without her.

How did you know your dress was the one?

I had a summer Florida wedding so I knew cool and comfortable were my two most important factors when trying on dresses. When I tried on my dress I immediately felt both of those things and loved the simple, but elegant look my dress had. The mesh lining, v-neck, and deep cut out on the back was what really sold it for me.

Megan is wearing our stunning Liv gown in Ivory. This lovely tulle A-line wedding dress features a bodice accented in lace appliqués, with metallic and illusion trim along the illusion V-neck and V-back. Shimmering spaghetti straps complete the elegant romance of this look.

Why did you select your venue? Was it the décor, service, scenery, feel, etc.?

We wanted to be close to our Ceremony location and having the reception on Park Ave in Winter Park couldn’t be beat. The space was simple, but had beautiful brick walls, white and brown barn doors on one wall, and tons of bulb lights that hung from the ceiling.I loved that we could turn the space into anything we wanted.

Did you do a first look? Why or why not?

We did not do a first look. Our Ceremony was in a Catholic Church and I really wanted to save the moment for when I was walking down the aisle to my soon to be husband. It was super special seeing him for the first time in front of our family and friends.

What advice would you give to newly engaged brides planning their wedding?

My advice for newly engaged brides planning their wedding would be to stay focused throughout the whole process, but also make sure you are talking to your spouse about your future beyond the wedding. There’s so much to be discussed from your wedding colors to the floral designs, but you also want to take extra time out for each other. Try to stay on the same page as your spouse and don’t be afraid to ask for help from friends and family!

What was your favorite detail or moment during your wedding or reception?

Some of our favorite moments included seeing each other for the first time at the altar, taking pictures on Park Ave, seeing our reception space before the guests arrived, eating our favorite ice cream from our ice cream truck, dancing the night away with our friends and family, and reminiscing on the day walking back to the hotel after the late night after-party. We were so happy to reflect on our perfect day that could not have been possible without our amazing vendors, bridal party and family.

Is there anyone you would like us to thank on your behalf in our blog? Such as a friend, relative or vendor that saved the day or put in long hours making wedding favors or planning showers.

I would have to thank my sister; Rachel (Maid of Honor) and my parents (Howard & Elizabeth) who made all of my wedding dreams come true. My sister planned the best Cinco De Mayo Bridal Shower and St Pete Bachelorette. My mom and sister attended any vendor appointment I asked including florist, dress shopping, accessories shopping and multiple alterations. My wedding really could not have happened without them. Last, but not least my sister in law Meaghan who designed my table numbers and put together the place cards for each guest that stuck into the mini succulents that doubled as wedding favors.

What did you plan for your reception exit?

We did sparklers (mainly for the photos) which turned out amazing! It was actually really fun running through a tunnel of sparklers.

Did you plan a honeymoon? Details and/or tips?

We are going to Italy in September! If you’re doing most of the planning for your Wedding I highly suggest letting someone else do the planning for your honeymoon. This gave us peace of mind that it was already taken care. One of our registries was through Traveler’s Joy where your guests can contribute money towards the honeymoon. We were able to have our trip fully paid off using this registry

A huge thank you to our beautiful bride Megan for being a part of our {Real Bride} blog! Check out the gallery of all the gorgeousness below!
